What are the future/current plans for solar rebates in NSW?

The NSW government has the Empowering Homes Program with no interest “loans of up to $9000 per battery system and up to $14000 per solar+battery system”. This is an excellent policy that will encourage jobs in our state. We have previously discussed the benefits of a solar battery system here and here.

There is no current starting date for the program, but we are expecting it to be soon as reducing energy bills and helping the environment are vital issues for NSW residents. We will update this post once the program is live.

Additionally, the all-day solar feed-in tariff scheme is still active with 8.5 to 10.2 c/kWh benchmark range for 2019/2020. It is up from last year and still offers value for your excess electricity. Remember that not all energy retailers provide the same feed-in tariff. To help you decide, please visit the government website Energy Made Easy or the retailers website.

At the time of writing this article, the best feed in tariff offer by Origin, AGL and Energy Australia are 20c/kWh, 20c/kWh and 12.5c/kWh respectively. We recommend to select your plan carefully as good feed-in tariffs could result in higher electricity rates.
